Virginia & Truckee's #25

Built in 1905, this locomotive just celebrated her 100th birthday! Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works as a coal burner, she was later converted to oil. She was used primarily for passenger service from Reno to Virginia City, but also filled in for freight. After the passenger line was ended, the 25 ran soley on the Carson City and Virginia City branch line, and, starting in 1938, she was fitted with a snowplow and saw limited use clearing snow off the tracks. When she was made obsolete by a newer 2-8-0 in 1947, she was sold to MGM studios, where she remained until 1971. It was then that the State of Nevada sought to reclaim their V&T engine, where she was given lots of TLC and restored to operating condition. She now resides in the museum, and once a year, returns to her original intended use, taking passengers on "excursions", around the museum each 4th of July.
